Although I'm not a Red Sox fan, I'm actually glad they won the World Series. Although I like the Yankees, I am glad the Sox came back and beat them in the AL championship. Really, it's their turn to win.
This is getting riduculous. Beyond ridiculous. At least this one came and went faster than Frances. We got power back tonight!! woo woo! That's the worst part... having no power. Some places weren't so lucky. North of here they really got hit. Humph. I should have stayed in New York. Well, maybe just until November!
I just can't believe another one is on the way. It's overwhelming. People are already acting insane around here. They're acting even stupider than usual, which is a lot to say in a town that doens't even know how to vote. I was in line at the gas station and saw some old guy, totally oblivious, back into someone's parked car, who was in the car and honking his horn at the guy. He didn't even realize he had hit the car until the guy got out of the car and started banging on his window HELLO! So yeah. Looking forward to another wonderful span of no power and no work and no money. I'm very glad we didn't have to face the wrath of Ivan here, but still, I just can't deal with another one, even a small one. Please stop.
With two hurricanes just passed, and one headed here, Florida seems more like the Hurricane State than the Sunshine State lately. Frances left my part of Florida, and most of the state really, a wreck. Trees down everywhere, homes damaged, power outages, etc. My family's house did all right, only some tree branches down and a little bit of roof damage. Still will cost money to fix though, so it's a bummer. The tree in front of my window pounded against the house for the whole course of the storm, which was really annoying, but luckily it didn't crash through the house or anything. We had no power for four days, and on and off for the next two. No phone service for several days either, and of course we can't rely on cell phones to work ever, so they were useless. It's been a week since the storm actually hit, and some places still don't have power. Lots of traffic lights are still out, which makes it even more annoying to drive around here, and people act even dumber than usual. We had an eight o'clock and then ten o'clock curfew imposed on us for nearly a week. Some places still have a curfew. It's been very wierd and everyone just wants to get back to normal. I was very glad to find my grandmother and great aunt's mobile homes in Port St. Lucie, an area that was hit heavily by the storm, intact. Some of the homes in their park were trashed, but theirs sustained only minor damage, and we thanked the Lord for that blessing. I just hope this Ivan stays far, far away!! We've had enough!!
If there weren't already enough signs that the world has gone completely crazy, now there's this American Idol reject, William Hung. I don't even watch American Idol, I think it's stupid, and after I heard the first winner (Kelly Clarkson) on the radio, I had no desire to listen to the winners, much less the losers. That song she sings is awful, her singing unimpressive at best. Now this guy is FAMOUS for being a LOSER? It's just bizarre. He's not even bad in the traditional sense of a mediocre singer using electronic enhancement and sex appeal to sell albums (ie Britney Spears); he's truly terrible. I just don't get it. Maybe it's because he's so little it reminds people of a child trying to sing, and is therefore adorable in that innocent, childlike way? I wonder if God is shaking his head thinking, "This is NOT what I had in mind when I created the human race."
I came home form my last orchestra concert at Purchase to find a play-doh party in my living room. Ashley and a bunch of her artist friends are filling balloons with homemade play-doh for some sort of art project. I don't even know how to describe it properly. It's chaos, but beautiful chaos. I have pictures, and I will post them soon. Having no other choice really, I am going to don my scruffiest old clothes and participate...
